it's our first snow day of the school year! the boys were up early - hanging out at the table with me and eating the chocolate chip muffins we made last night. i really need to teach the boys about SLEEPING IN. i keep trying, but they don't believe me. sigh. it started snowing yesterday - sam went out for a bit to test his new snowball making mittens. from the amount of snow he threw at me, i'm thinking they work just fine.

i've got a new page up on the studio calico blog - i'm hosting the sunday sketch this week. the sketch is based off of a page by stephanie howell. i wanted to share a little more about how i made the misted background.
i started by lightly marking off sections on my background paper with a pencil - mapping out where i wanted each color to go. i masked off each section at the top and bottom, and aimed the mist towards the right side of the page. i didn't mask along the left side of the misted area at all - i wanted the mist to fade out to the left, rather than having a uniform edge.
here's a peek at the background - before i erased my guidelines and started building the page. from here i added my title and photo and started digging through my embellishments and paper, looking for little bits to add to each strip.
speaking of the studio calico blog... you'll want to stop by later today. especially if you like NEW things. just saying. =)
happy monday, all! sam thinks that we should make the gingerbread house we didn't get to over winter break... he may be on to something.
