i came across this on pinterest last night and all i can say is YES. good words. i've been a frustrated perfectionist my whole life & that really plagued me when i started scrapbooking. the best thing i ever learned was to let go of that ideal page in my head and to just go with the flow and see where i end up. 

i still fight it, at times. i struggle with projects that won't do what i want them to, only to walk away and come back with a clearer head and let them be what THEY want to be. i throw away backgrounds because of misting experiments gone bad. i scramble to cover stamping mistakes. and every screw up teaches me something, and i'm thankful for that.

i know now what's good for me. i know how i work best. i grab a photo, i gather some of my favorite products, and i see where they take me. sometimes i peek at pinterest for a little push in the right direction, but i'm open to wandering off the road.

if i could only learn to apply this to life in general - all would be good. ;) in the meantime, i'm working on it/ happy thursday!

what i'm doing more of : pushing sam on the swing. eating fruit salad. watching the bigs run around the block with their friends. playing with paper + glue. planning & daydreaming house projects. pinning things for said plans. enjoying the quiet with matthew once the boys are in bed. moving at a summertime pace - which is both more hectic and more relaxed.

yesterday..  sigh. one of the days. we found out that our a/c needs to be replaced. our bathroom sink is leaking at the shutoff valve (and replacing said shutoff valve set us back $20 and 90min, but did nothing about the leaking). cranky sam woke up after a ten minute nap and would only go back to sleep on top of me. i got less than nothing done.

and that's okay. we knew the a/c's day was coming. old sinks in old houses leak. sam is a snugglebug and i know these days are numbered. and today is a new day, with lots of time to get stuff done.

but still... i'd be grateful if nothing breaks today. please and thank you.

i've been reminding myself of this a lot lately, so it was serendipitous to come across it on ali's blog. i tend to get off track and flit from task to task, but i get a lot more done when i concentrate on one.thing.at.a.time.

because while getting out of my comfort zone and taking it one thing at a time is all well and good, there are only so many hours in the day. because i'd rather do a few things well than everything half heartedly. because sometimes things won't work, don't fit or just can't happen. and that's ok.
