i've got a new project to share with you today, using lots of my favorite products available at 2peas. my most FAVORITE product on this page just might be the leaves cut with my brand new silhouette cameo - as in i ordered it on friday and took it out of it's box today. i've been going back and forth on getting one for a while and am so glad i finally made the plunge. i found these leaves via marcy penner - she put together a great list of faves for the silhouette.

i started this page by laying the studio calico mask along the right side, then spraying it with mister huey's heirloom blue at fairly close range. holding the mist about 4 inches from the page will give you a more focused spray, and i knew i wanted the color to be localized along that side of the page. i also added a bit mroe down in the bottom left to offset it. from there, i added my main photo and then started placing scraps of paper and embellishments to fill in the rest of the page.

happy halloween! + 2 projects

it's finally halloween! we've been celebrating since last thursday - we've been to 3 trick or treat events (my mom's work, the rehab facility where matthew's dad is recovering from hip replacement surgery, and matthew's work) and 2 parties (family fun night at school and a block party with friends). we've bought pumpkins and carved pumpkins. we've watched it's the great pumpkin charlie brown and the nightmare before christmas. we also threw in a birthday party for matthew's dad, a play at the children's theater and helping a comic book store to move into the weeked. ;) and now sam has his halloween program at school this morning and we'll trick or treat in our neighborhood tonight. here's our weekend in instagrams (including a peek at sam's costume!) :

and in the midst of all that, i squeezed in some scrapping. here's one of the three pages i made this weekend. i've been dying to try marcy's chevron tutorial - i mixed it up a little by adding thinner strips. btw, if you do this, use your bigger pieces as a guide for where to cut the angles - otherwise your strips won't be the right length. ;)

i mixed some of the handmade kit (woodgrain pp, leaf pp, buttons) in with the studio calico retail lines for this page. i knew i wanted a mix of looks in my chevron - i finally settled on using a few neutral pps, a pop of green, some misted strips and some of studio calico's new scraps. i love how it turned out. i had to cut a section off to make the page design come together - i'm hoarding it for use on a future project. =)

handmade

HANDMADE is live! and i'm excited to get to share these projects with you. =) for my main only LO this month, i focused on all of my favorites from the kit - the sc leaf paper, the amy tan leaves & alpha, and the woodgrain crate. since i went with a simple design, i brought in a little texture with the tone on tone scallops and by folding back the edge of the sc pp to expose the back. the leaves on the sc paper were painted with mister huey - i just dipped my brush into the bottle and colored them in. i also cut a few out and backed them with the woodgrain pp.

with the exception of the text & woodgrain papers, this one was made with the second add-on, THIMBLE. the paper down the middle - marbles by OA - just makes me happy. and yes. i'm still obsessed with the ampersand mask. ;)

i've been pinning a lot of collage-y images over on pinterest, and that definitely influenced this page. totally loving the effect of the mist over a patterned paper - i'll be doing that again.

and this page is definitely influenced by all of the awesome art journals, mixed up mini books and smash books out there. i folded the lily bee text paper in half and built the builk of my page on that.i stitched it down the middle to the background, leaving both edges free, then slid strips of the same pp behind it, to further the book look. from there, i added a lot of bits and bobs above and below the "pages" - all the fun of a funky mini, without the commitment. ;)

in other news, i caved and picked up the sc/ali edwards december daily kit. lorie triple dog dared me, the girls in the early reveal chat enabled me and i spent the day texting back and forth with kelly about it, and when she gave in, i did too. ;) i'm excited to mix it with the goodies i ordered from marcy penner's shop! i don't have a big stash of holiday product, and i'll be able to use the extras in project life. right?? right. 

happy friday!! i finished the max costume with about 20 minutes to spare yesterday - i'm looking forward to getting some photos this weekend so i can share them with you. he'll be wearing it again today - we're trick or treating at matthew's work this afternoon, and then heading to a family fun night at school.  hope yours is fun, too!

reveal day!

i was hoping to have a project life update for today - but i've been spending too much time fighting with fuzzy fabric. our first halloween event is TONIGHT, so max must be done. i have been working on PL 5 min here, 5 min there - it's coming together rather well. i'll have a two week update next thursday or friday. (ps : love the balloon animal and all the fuzz on my carpet from the costume. hee.)

two peas is running a stamping a to z event - today's letter is "o", and i contributed a card made with october afternoon products. i love using stamps as a guide for paper piecing, and oa's stamps are usually fabulous for this technique. you can read more about the card as well as some ideas on organizing your stamps over at the 2peas events blog.

we made our last trip to the ortho today - sam has a naked arm!!! the breaks have completely healed and his range of motion is *nearly* back to normal (and will get there with normal use). he has a risk of rebreak for up to a year (ack), and it will take 1-2years for the bump where the bones healed to go away (double ack!), but i'm glad to have this behind us. he's not thrilled to be splint free, so we got a chocolate shake on the way home to celebrate. he'll come around on it being a good thing. =)

handmade sneaks - finally!!

october is flying by...  it's almost time for another studio calico kit reveal! HANDMADE debuts on october 28th, and i've finally got a few sneaks to share.

this one is my HANDMADE only LO - i brought some color to the exclusive leaves paper by painting it w/ mist. love the effect! you could get a similar look with watercolors or acrylic paint.

my next page is 90% THIMBLE - i did add a strip of paper from TATTING and one from HANDMADE. i just needed a little neutral to finish it off. this was in the slideshow but looked a smidge different. i switched up a couple of elements when i finished it off.

oh, hello heirloom blue mist. why hadn't i used you before??? new favorite. i loved this OA paper from PIN CUSHION - gives a great collage-y look with very litle work.

speaking of project life - becky posted pics of all of the cards in next year's core kits. i'm loving the new ones! i've found that i haven't reached for the kit supplies lately - but it's mostly because the older kits weren't a good fit with my style. cobalt WILL be coming to my scraproom. i won't use it exclusively, but i know i'll use enough of it for it to be a good investment. which one do you have your eye on??

There are online classes for everything these days, and Shimelle has been teaching online scrapbooking classes for years - but she's decided it's time to kick it up a bit and go from online class to a four-week online party, and you're invited.  Pretty Paper Party is the party to attend if you have a collection of paper stacked up for a rainy day, if you have more scraps of paper than you know what to do with (but you know you don't want to throw them away!) and if you've ever put a piece of paper back in your stash because it was just too special for the photos at hand.  Through printable prompts and tutorial videos, Shimelle and dozens of special party guests will share beautiful and innovative techniques you can achieve with the paper you have already collected.

i adore the idea of this class. patterned paper is one of my favorite scrapbook supplies - it can be transformed into just about anything. i'm thrilled to be contributing a project to shimelle's class - i had fun bringing together scraps of all of my favorite pieces of paper and figuring out how to make them work together.

here's a little peek at my project in progress..  still lots of stiching / sticking / embellishing to do. and you'll only get to see the finished layout if you come to the party. ;)

this class started monday, but as with any good party, it's okay to arrive fashionably late. ;) there are no deadlines and you'll have permanent access to all class material, so anyone can RSVP to the party at any time! i am loving the prompts & samples - oodles of inspo in my inbox every morning.
