the moments in between

the more things change

my grandma frequents estate sales and auctions, and i had asked her to keep an eye out for old books, ledgers, sheet music and the like for me.  since the boys were off school on monday, we went over to spend the morning with her and she gave me this lovely pile of goodies:

a few songs worth of music, a bunch of clothing patterns, and a bunch of papers torn out of an old guest book.  

as i dug through it i found a coat pattern addressed to my great grandmother, mailed from new york city, postmarked 1926.  that's 8 years before my grandpa was born. so cool.  going to have to scrap this.

and as i started reading the guest book entries, i had to laugh.  because boys in the 40s seem to have had the same sense of humor as boys do now.

sam and i went outside to get a photo of a LO that i finished yesterday.  i had to laugh when i noticed that he had snuck into the frame. hee.

the design was inspired by the paperwings website, which i found via the red thread blog - as soon as i saw it i knew i wanted to use it as a starting point for a page.

it's gray and cold today..  we've gone from 6in of snow (friday) to sunny and 50 (yesterday), i guess we're back around to winter. sigh.  the boys were off friday for a snow day, and home monday and tuesday for planned days off.  i was soooooooooo glad to send them back to school this morning.  

gotta get the littlest dressed so we can meet the girls for bagels. =)

busy day today..  sam has gymboree, the bigs have vday parties at school (and i'm going up to help w/ alex's), swimming lessons..  and alex has a field trip this morning.  oy.

fiest on sesame street.  always makes me smile.  sam asks for it frequently and does his best to sing along.

an app for the ipod touch / iphone.  sam LOVES it.  it's saved many situations. he's so cute with it "bouncin' bouncin', who's in dere??? DOGGY!!  woofwoof!"

mama, however, thinks it's a little bit whacked. he knows the characters by name, which is kinda scary.

now wasn't working for me.  it was too harsh and making me feel very "nahnahnah i don't wanna."  so out it went.  an email from a friend brought heart to my mind, and it's feeling a lot more natural.  so this year will be about giving my heart to those i love, putting my heart into my work, and making our home the heart of our family.

more cha ramblings (aka cha part 2)

i laid out my top 2 in my last cha post, now here's some other things that caught my eye:

american crafts : always a fave.  i'm in love with the craft fair and backyard lines - especially the script thickers.  swoon.  i'm going to need a couple of the new stamp sets as well.

bella blvd : i have to confess that i missed their booth (and, um, the entire new section - what kind of cha-goer AM i???) - but there are some pics on their blog that have me majorly regretting missing it! i love the color combos they have going on.

hambly : loved the onesies and the mini circles.  super fun.

jenni bowlin studios : i took one blurry pic, so i'll just link you to steph's post w/ pretty pics galore. love the new embellies, all of them.  love that she does vintage that can fit any style - it's just timeless and classic.

fancy pants : my fave w/ the on a whimsy line.  love the colors, love the whimsical patterns.  and the journaling notebooks are awesome.  their new frames are very cool, too - i am going to need one or two!

hero arts : happy, happy and more happy.  there is something about seeing that many stamps in one place that just makes me grin.  they just had a small new release, but seeing all the stamps from the catalog that released at the beginning of the year just made me want them even more.  so many beautiful, versatile designs.

cosmo cricket : their new lines are so fun.  my faves were snorkel and girl friday - both bright w/ lots of personality.  i think the yellow submarine on the snorkel chipboard is my favorite. =)

october afternoon : i was so disappointed to see that their booth wasn't at the show - they are one of my favorite new companies.  i love working with their papers - they just mesh well with my style - and the peeks of their new lines had me at hello.

crate paper : bliss.  i loved all three lines, and will be buying bits and pieces of all of them.  i didn't get pics of the lillian line, but it was beautiful.

fiskars : the new border punches??  perfection.  also loving the new stamps made to fit in the scallop punches.  i've got a weekend full of fiskars assignments and i can't wait to give the new stuff a good workout. =)

pink paislee : i wasn't convinced from the online sneaks, but seeing it in person was totally different.  love the rich, sophisticated color palettes they have going, and the sticker books w/ a combo of embellishments and a tiny alphabet are perfect!  their alpha font choices are always a favorite of mine, and this new release fits that.
