sickieville

this little guy didn't have a good first christmas. =(  he woke up christmas eve w/ a bit of a cough and sounding hoarse, and just went downhill from there. by dinnertime on christmas day, he wouldn't stop crying and was coughing so hard he could barely catch his breath.  long story short, he got to end his christmas celebration w/ a visit to the children's er, where he was diagnosed w/ a raging ear double ear infection.  and to make matters even more merry, big brother alex woke up coughing and wheezing early the next morning, and is now on steroids.  whee!!  alex is doing much better, but sam is still in pretty rough shape..  if we have another sleepless night, i'm calling the ped first thing in the morning.

busy weekend

*drove out to becky's on saturday morning to have her take some pics of sam.  ended up staying and talking for 3 hours.  i've known becky for a couple years but i think this is the first time that i've gotten to sit and chat w/ her alone for so long., so that was definitely a treat. =)

*spent some time at becky's digging through my bag for the ornament i'd made her as a little thank you.  just about drove myself crazy wondering where it was.  i get home, and ask matthew if he's seen it.  alex tells me that ben put it on the tree for me.  well, there ya go.

*we let the boys open a present from uncle dan & aunt jill on saturday morning - they got super mario galaxy for the wii.  they had a grand time playing while i was gone. =)

*saturday afternoon we decorated christmas cookies.

*saturday night sam decided to stay up and scream at us until 11ish.  that was a riot. =P

*this morning holly and i met kp & kevin for breakfast.  it's always so fun to get to actually meet someone that i've known for so long.  i think we bored poor kevin out of his mind, though.

*and the boys played more wii while i was gone.

*we made and decorated the saddest little gingerbread house that ever there was this afternoon.

*we drove around and looked at christmas lights after dinner.

*i'm dumping pics from the weekend now, so i have none to post right with this. too sleepy!

everything i know about sewing i learned on paper.

you may remember that back in july, a mere 2 days before sam was born, i decided that i'd go ahead and actually use my sewing machine on fabric.  gasp.  well, that was my first and last fabric only project (despite great plans and intentions) until earlier this week.

i made sam's stocking.  my mom had made the bodies of the other 2 stockings.  i used it as a pattern and riddled out how to make it work.  i was holding my breath till it was done.

i made ornaments for all 3 boys.

i made a ribbon tabbie blankie for sammy.

and i appliqued a star on the front of a tshirt for alex.

yesterday

this one woke up w/ major bedhead and an attitude to match.

this one was sick AND hyper.  thank you steroids.  i love that you let my kid breathe, but i hate the side effects =P

this one had a MAJOR diaper explosion while i was rocking him to sleep for a nap.  the sort where he needed a bath immediately.

but it's amazing what a little present wrapping and christmas carol singing can do for the spirits, and we all had a good afternoon.

and it's so far, so good today, even though ben is still sounding awful.  we've done a lot of school work and watched the grinch.  sam chilled in his new high chair with us while alex did math.

it's noon and we're all still in jammies.. it's looking like yet ANOTHER day where no one gets dressed.  we've had quite a few of those lately.

aaaaaaaaaaaand...

...ben woke up at 10 last night w/ an awful croup attack. poor boy.  his breathing is still more laboured than i'd like, so we're going to the pediatrician this afternoon.  i have a feeling that steroids are in our future. =(  so hoping that neither of the other boys pick this up.. croup tends to send alex to the ER, and sammy is just too little for this ick!

IT is up for january...  yummy sparkle-y goodness.  here are my projects for this month - barely got the last one done before i got *really* sick. "captured" is a mini album - i can't wait to find time to fill it w/ photos!  there are some rocking sales going on over at IT kit right now, so check it out!

dang.

i apparently have the virus that the boys had a couple of weeks ago.  sore throat, crazy fever, and awful body aches.  it's been a day and a half and i finally feel sort of human when i have advil in my system.  UGH.

this thing has taken a week in between victims, and i am soooooo hoping that neither matthew or sam has it on christmas. =P

so behind.

there's like 15 posts i've meant to blog and have never gotten around to.  and then i get so overwhelmed that i don't know where to start. =P  so, let's talk about sam.  the bigs never let me take their picture anymore, anyways =P

sammy at thanksgiving.  he turned 4 mos right after that.  eeeeps!  how did he get so big?  he's rolling back to belly (but not the other way, he gets too mad!).  he's getting really good at grabbing things (and then stuffing them into his mouth!).  he's a total flirt, and loves to smile and talk to everyone when we're out.  we're still trying to get a handle on the whole mspi (milk & soy protein intolerance) thing - all o fhis fussy / no sleep days seem to come back to finding out that i've eaten something that has hidden dairy or soy, and it's frustrating.  so we're going through a phase of hyper vigilance right now and hoping we can get it all figured out.   

he blows raspberries all the time and thinks it's hilarious.

he had his (late) 4 mo appt on tues.  he's 15lbs 11oz & 26.75in - tall boy.  we've had a rough week after those shots.  and i'm SICK.  ugh.  the last couple days have been rough.  we were planning on going out of town to visit family this weekend, but had to call it off.  here's hoping that a couple of quiet days get me back up so speed.  not that there's much "quiet" around my house anymore, but it's all relative, right?

finally.  i am planning on doing a MAJOR room rearrange after christmas, so i will probably wait till then to mail these out, since i know there will be lots more goodies once i get into that.  i drew 4 names - i have 4 boxes on the floor of my scraproom that i've been throwing things in as i clean.  i'll be sending out emails to these ladies asap. =)

That's a stamp!?!?! That really is impressive. So happy to see some gluestick love! I can't believe how big Sammy is getting already. Wasn't it just yesterday that we were bemoaning how we would always be pregnant? David has finally slept almost two nights in a row (if you can call only getting up at 1:30 and 6:30 am as sleeping through...) and I don't quite know what to do with myself, bwahaha.

a hodge podge

first off:

doesn't alex look insanely old in this pic?  i swear, i get a glimpse of him as a teenager. eeeps.  not ready to think about that, really.  and this picture if from LAST winter!!  we got lots of snow this morning so i thought it was fitting that i share this page that i did for hero arts - i think i'm in love with the little snowman. =)

so.  this week.  spent the first couple days with a sick alex.  he had the virus that ben fought last week.  with some throwing up in the middle of the night thrown in for good measure.  yeaaaaaaaaaah.  is it spring yet?

then yesterday.  the mall shootings.  SO scary.  so wrong.  matthew had the day off and he and ben were out shopping.  that mall was actually on their list of places to go.  thankfully they headed downtown first.  my mom had been at the mall over her lunch, about 30 min before it happened.  i'm just so glad that no one that i know was there.  and my heart goes out to all of those directly affected.

and to TOTALLY switch topics...  one year ago today i realized that i was over two weeks late.  and matthew brought home a pregnancy test.  we'd been dealing with getting over the great kindergarten drama and all of the stress that brought our family.  we'd been dealing with my grandpa's health and that he'd been in and out of the hospital.  so seeing that test turn positive....  well, it took me a bit to get to a good place about it.  the holiday season last year was a total emotional rollercoaster, that came to a grand finish in january, when i had to deal with the death of my grandpa, a really awful upper respiratory infection, the whole family rallying to plan a memorial service in a weekend, and hearing sam's heartbeat for the first time all in a 5 day span.  it was hard.  it was REALLY hard.  so glad to have a new little man to share this holiday season with, though i know we'll all be feeling the loss of my grandpa at our holiday get togethers.

i have a few more random things to write about but i think that's enough for one day...  i am still digging through my scraproom and will be drawing names SOON.  happy thursday!
